Community Fun Day – more details

As most will be aware we will be having a “Community Family Day” at the club on Saturday June 15th with the intention of ultimately attracting new members by showing people what fun bowls is and how our club is a friendly and social place. This replaces the previous open “taster” days. There will be games for children, who bring their parents with them!

We will also raise funds for our 2024 charity, “BATS”, Blind at Sea, who are based locally and provide sailing opportunities for the blind and visually impaired.

You can see the poster which we will be used to promote the event on our website. Click on Joining and then ‘Community and Recruitment Events’.  Alternatively, click HERE for the Community brochure only.  These will be appearing locally and hopefully on the Facebook pages of both Mylor and villages in the area.

This event needs the help of all members to make it successful. Playing bowls to demonstrate what it’s all about, inviting visitors to try, helping with the children’s games, and generally socialising. Both the kitchen and bar will be open. Club shirts will be worn.

The event will run from 11 am to 5 pm. Whilst some will be there all day it is not expected that everyone needs to be. So we will have three 2 hour sessions. 11 to 1, 1 to 3 and 3 to 5. Can every member please indicate by email to me which of those times they are unable to do. Once known a rota will be prepared to ensure we have a balanced number during the day.

Alongside the children’s games and adult bowling opportunities we will be having a Charity “Bowlathon”. This will last 6 hours from 10 am to 4 pm. Volunteers to take part are invited. Some will play the full 6 hours, whilst others just 3. Some will play in fancy dress, which should amuse the children and adults alike. We already have Batman and the 2 Ugly Sisters and ideally are looking for someone to be Robin, The Joker and, possibly, the Penguin, plus Cinderella and Buttons. We hope to get sponsorship with the proceeds going to our charity.
