Short Mat Manager – update

Further to the request for a volunteer to run our short-mat section, we are delighted to announce that David Gadd (yes, another David) has agreed to take up this important role.  More to follow but, in the meantime, below is an introductory message from David.

Please give as much support as you can, initially by signing up for the coming Winter’s short-mat squad. If you are new to the game, it’s a great way to develop your skills and understanding, as well as being a lot of fun.

A MESSAGE FROM DAVID GADD ABOUT SHORT MAT BOWLS THIS COMING WINTER.

Winter seems like a long way away at the moment but we are just starting the planning for the short mat winter season which starts in mid September.

For those of you not familiar with the short mat season, it runs from mid September to Mid April. The club house is converted from its current “party” mode to a “short mat/carpet mat” format and the club then runs a season of short mat friendlies, participates in a Cornwall wide short mat league and also has default short mat roll ups for members to attend on Friday afternoons.

We had a very successful short mat season last year where we fielded one team playing games against Truro, Hayle, Porthlevan and many others both home and away.

We are now asking for interest from members who might be interested in playing in the short mat league so we can organise how many teams we want to enter into the competition. Players can be of any ability so all members both established and new can join in.

If you think you might like to play please contact either David Gadd or David House – Mr Gadd is going to be doing a lot of the coordinationthis year with Mr House helping him in his first year as short mat coordinator.

In the first instance please contact davey5678@gmail.com to register your interest so we can decide how many teams to enter into the league.

Thanks
David

Due to other commitments, David House is not able to manage our short mat team for the coming 2025/26 season.  David has done a great job organising this section of the club, but it is now time for someone else to step up to the plate and look after this team.

It is not an onerous task, there currently being only one team of six, and it presents an opportunity for someone new to put a little back into the club, which relies totally on member support.  This would be an ideal start up for one of our newer members who wishes to involve him or her self in the running of some aspect of club administration.  Somebody has to do it, so why not you?  In a community club like ours, the members have a responsibility to ensure the continued growth, smooth running and maintenance of ‘their’ club

David will be on hand to offer assistance when needed, but the requirements will be quickly picked up, and the successful incumbent will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they are a material element of the club’s backbone.

Interested? Of course you are!  Let either David W or David H know and they will assist with any arrangements which need to be made.
