Captain’s end of season report – 23rd September 2023

Welcome One and All, I do hope you have all enjoyed the last day of a very enjoyable season.

Please accept my apologies for not being able to present this report in person

As a club we have had mixed success in both the men’s, ladies and strollers leagues: Our boys have given some of the top clubs in Cornwall and indeed Devon, a good run for their money winning the regional final of the national 2 x 4s, which is a real recognition for Mylor Bridge Bowls Club. Similarly, the Ladies have also seen some success in winning the County National 4’s trophy, thrashing Chacewater in the final, which was extremely satisfying! Congratulations to our strollers for coming 3rd in the league.

Mylor is presenting itself as a club to be reckoned with, so keep up the good work!

I wish to thank Jeff and his band of merry men in keeping our green in tip top condition!  It is the best green I have played on this year and I believe that this has been stated by Liz Bray, which is a huge accolade to our club and its workforce!  Thank you and well done one and all!

I also wish to thank Sue Walker for running the club competitions so efficiently – and no mean feat in doing so either!  So well done and thank you!

My thanks should also extend to various others who have made my position as Captain easier through the season, these being:-

Linda Storey, my very efficient right-hand woman.

Norman Sancto, for his input into team selection, which presents so many challenges!

Carole and David Woodman, for their support throughout the season with their secretarial skills.

Obviously there are many more people that have shown their willingness to help but I don’t want you all going to sleep at this point!

The success of our club is very much dependent on its membership and the member’s willingness to volunteer their services, be it in the kitchen, baking, working on the committee or helping with the green/garden etc.  A sincere thank you to all those that have offered their services to make our club so successful! Long may it continue!

Tomorrow, and probably over the next few days the green will be scarified and reseeded in readiness for next season.  If you can spare a couple of hours please speak with Jeff and come along to join in the fun!

My service as an officer of the club is now coming to an end and I look forward to meeting you all on the greens next season.
